Why it's useful

Connect BugSmash with Zapier to automate your feedback workflows and connect BugSmash with thousands of popular applications.

While BugSmash offers native integrations with tools like Jira, ClickUp and Asana. Zapier allows you to create custom automations across your entire tech stack without any coding.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, make sure you have:

  • An active BugSmash account

  • A Zapier account

  • Access to your BugSmash Zapier API Key

Step 1: Get Your Zapier API Key

  1. Log in to BugSmash.

  2. Open Workspace Settings.

  3. Navigate to Integrations.

  4. Locate Zapier and click Connect.

  5. Copy the generated Zapier API Key.

Note: Keep your API Key secure and avoid sharing it publicly.

Step 2: Create a Zap

  1. Log in to Zapier.

  2. Click Create Zap.

  3. In the Trigger step, search for BugSmash.

  4. Select the BugSmash app.

Step 3: Connect Your BugSmash Account

  1. Click Sign in to BugSmash.

  2. Paste your Zapier API Key.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Zapier will verify your connection.

Once connected, you're ready to start building automations.

Step 4: Select a Trigger Event

Choose the BugSmash event that should trigger your automation.

Available trigger events include:

  • New Comment — Triggered when a new comment is added.

  • Comment Updated — Triggered when an existing comment is updated.

  • Comment Replied — Triggered when a reply is added to a comment.

  • Status Changed — Triggered when a comment status changes.

You can also optionally select a specific project if you only want the automation to run for that project.

Step 5: Test the Trigger

  1. Click Test Trigger.

  2. Zapier will retrieve sample data from BugSmash.

  3. Review the returned data and click Continue.

Tip: Create or update a comment in BugSmash before testing if you'd like to use real data.

Step 6: Add an Action

After configuring the trigger, select what should happen when the event occurs.

Troubleshooting

If your Zap isn't working as expected:

  • Verify that your Zapier API Key is correct.

  • Ensure your Zap is turned on.

  • Confirm that the selected trigger matches the action performed in BugSmash.

  • Create a new comment or update an existing comment before testing.

  • Reconnect your BugSmash account if the API Key has been regenerated.
